Earlier this month, we outlined the principles on how we plan for our ‘elite’ women’s team to develop. Our men’s and women’s first teams, under the banner of the ‘elite’ footballing structure of the club, will be supported equally when it comes to financial management, encouraging participation both on and off the pitch and the provision of training facilities, kit, and equipment. All to provide the best environment for the teams to flourish and progress within their respective league structures.
Discussions with the Greater Manchester Women’s FA (GMWFA), an ever-growing and successful county league, have progressed and an application is soon to be made to enter within their structure from the start of next season. The exact division at this stage is yet to be determined, however, we expect this to be within Tier 7 of the women’s game (as shown on the image), and as our men’s team last season, this will be at the highest step that we are allowed to enter as a new team.
Our previous statement confirmed that as a club we want the women’s elite team to be sustainable in the long term and in its own right. A great deal of work has been going on behind the scenes to ensure development plans are viable. Casey Lynchey and Tania Jackson are members of the overall club’s football board, ably supported by Kelly Boag and former Manchester City and Everton player, Krystle Johnson (pictured below).
Our aspirations are to win promotion into the regional leagues and climb up the football pyramid across the coming seasons. In this regard, we are delighted to confirm that we will soon be revealing our first player signings alongside announcing the members of staff who will manage the team.
With women’s football from tier 3 and below curtailed, we are already attracting high-quality players who are jumping at the chance to represent Bury AFC ready for the new season.
