We are delighted to announce the first two signings for our new women’s first team: goalkeeper Katie Kefford, and midfielder Kiera Lynchey.
Securing a goalkeeper at such an early stage has been key and Katie, 20, arrives having previously been with Brighouse Town Women in FAWNL North Division 1 (Tier 4), as well as spells at Bolton Wanderers Ladies (now Bolton Ladies) & Walshaw Ladies.
When signing on, young ‘keeper Kefford said: “I’m looking forward to this amazing opportunity and can’t wait to get started. It’s exciting to be part of the new women’s football team alongside Bury AFC men.”
Goalkeeping coach Kelly Boag indicated her delight at getting Katie on board: “She is a brilliant first signing for us and is a really talented young goalkeeper with good experience at some big clubs. She has an amazing work ethic and will be a great asset to the team.”
19-year-old Kiera has followed a similar footballing journey to Katie, playing together at Bolton Wanderers Ladies and Brighouse Town Women, as well as playing for Bury Girls.
Playing in centre-midfield, Kiera came to prominence during her time at Bolton, making her first-team debut away at Newcastle (pictured) at the age of 16. Her involvement with the U-19s and first-team squads during this phase of her career has led to trips to both Las Vegas and Milan respectively.
Head of Elite Women’s Team, Casey Lynchey, indicated that the hard work put in over the last few months was starting to come to fruition when players of the calibre of Katie and Kiera want to be involved: “We are excited to welcome our first two new signings. We have had a lot of interest since the turn of the year and we believe there will be great things to come from the squad that is being assembled.”
Welcome Katie & Kiera! #ProudToBe
