The club was formed by Casey Lynchey, who teaches in a school in Bury. Casey said

“I formed the club in 2019, and Bury FC Women Vets have gone from strength to strength in the 18 months or so since our club’s setup. We now count over 100 women, of all ages and abilities, who are registered with us and have offered our players many opportunities on the playing field and in a variety of fundraising and collaborative events.

When the opportunity to affiliate to the newly formed Bury AFC arose, we jumped at the chance! We are so impressed with what is being done to bring football back to the town, the accompanying enthusiasm and commitment so I am sure this is going to be the start of a really strong and exciting partnership between men’s and women’s football in Bury.”

Phil Young, Chair of the Shakers Community, said

“We are absolutely committed to developing this club into the wider community, not just a successful men’s first team. What Casey and her team has achieved in such a short space of time is remarkable, and embodies everything we value as a club. The club is financially sustainable, funded by a subscription model similar to our own, and built with principles of community, empowerment and both mental and physical wellbeing at its heart. We are delighted they will be affiliating with us.
